Maisha Mazuri has grown quite a bit in recent years, as can be seen from this overview. The environment around Maisha Mazuri also benefits from this and is developing in parallel. Only the second part of the boarding school and the outdoor kitchen with an open space for meals and other gatherings.
Now, the existing buildings “only” have to be maintained well, which is definitely a challenge, after all, they are used a lot and the climatic conditions do not always make it easy. After the heavy rainfalls in December 2021 clearly showed us the leaks in the roof of the children’s home.
A powerful smoke vent could be installed in the outdoor kitchen of the children’s home. It is much appreciated by our chef Julius as well as all helpers and children.
Since the end of December 2021, work has been underway on the filter system for the well water. With the help of the Schmitz Foundations/BMZ, the water is cleaned of the excessively high fluoride content with a filter and then remineralized accordingly. This treatment is especially important because many children and adolescents use and drink the water, and our water pump also supplies the entire neighborhood with water. Ein Herz für Kinder e.V. has helped built an appropriate PV system and electricity design, so that the water pump can work with full force (even when the clouds are hiding the sun).
The list of neccessary renovations goes on: at the top of our “to-do-list” are a new children’s playground and a well on the Shamba, the large ecologically operated agricultural site.
We are entirely grateful how beautifully our team has been sticking together all these years . Building houses is one thing – building a loving home is a totally different story. The Maisha Mazuri staff has been so commited to create a home for the children and a place that the community feels welcome and loved.
