In early March, Kenya was hit by harsh weather, the heavy rainfall and severe flooding affected around half the country, including Nairobi. This presented a challenge for our team at the Secondary School (Academy of Maisha Mazuri – AMM) in organising the 2026 Prize Giving Day under these circumstances. A number of hurdles had to be overcome: many pupils and parents were unable to make the journey due to the weather and road conditions, the programme had to be shortened, and the event started late.

Ultimately, however, what matters is that the graduates were recognised for their achievements. Particularly outstanding were the five pupils who, having achieved a grade of C+ or higher, secured direct entry to university – a feat that was also rewarded with a laptop for each of them.

Further rewards for high-achieving pupils were given in the form of leather school bags, pencil cases or water bottles. The tidiest boarding school room was also recognised. In addition, the teachers who had played a part in achieving these positive results were delighted to receive a financial bonus.

Without Hand in Hand für Kenia e.V., this level of recognition would not have been possible. The whole team and everyone involved on the ground would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the valuable and inspiring gifts.
Incidentally, contrary to the weather forecast, the sun even broke through from time to time during the day!
